Christoph Pepe Auer
Christoph Pepe Auer (born August 28, 1981 in Hall in Tirol ) is an Austrian jazz musician ( woodwind instruments ).
biography
Auer received regular music lessons at the age of five. In 2001 he began to study saxophone and jazz at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz . Teachers were Florian Bramböck , Karlheinz Miklin , Heinrich von Kalnein and Klaus Dickbauer . He studied composition in Stockholm with various scholarships. In addition, he had lessons with Dick Oatts , George Garzone , Donny McCaslin , Branford Marsalis , David Binney, Tony Malaby , Marcus Strickland, and others.
Back in Austria, Auer traveled to Beijing with his Austrian quartet. Together with Manu Delago he founded Living Room , a duo for hang and bass clarinet , with which he gave over 250 concerts in the USA, Africa, Australia and Europe. In 2007 he obtained the Magister der Künste (Mag.art.) In Graz with excellent success.
Auer specializes in alto saxophone , soprano saxophone , tenor saxophone , clarinet , bass clarinet and flute . He worked u. a. with Adam Holzman , Joseph Bowie and the groups Nouvelle Cousine , Flip Philipp - Ed Partyka Dectet, Tyrolean Jazz Orchestra , Saxofour and the Jazz Big Band Graz . He appeared at the Klangspuren Schwaz as well as at jazz concerts in Serbia , Slovenia , Kosovo , Poland and Germany . He leads the Christoph Pepe Auer Quartet with Martin Reiter on piano , Matthias Pichler on bass and Peter Kronreif on drums . He also appears in the Jazzit Stage Orchestra and Matthias Löscher Quartet.
In 2007 Auer founded Session Work Records . With this record company he has already released 120 CDs and LPs with over 300 musicians. Furthermore, Auer has been teaching big band & ensemble, ear and rhythm training, jazz / pop practice saxophone and melody instruments, basics of arrangement and composition at the Mozarteum Salzburg since 2015 . He has been a lecturer in Music Business at the Jazz Campus in Basel since 2016 .
Prizes and awards
- In 2004 Auer won the Biberach Jazz Prize .
- In 2005 he received the Hans Koller Prize in the "New York Scholarship" category and the performance scholarship from the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz .
- In 2005 he was sent to the IASJ Annual Jazzmeeting in Poland (with David Liebman) as student representative of the University of Music and Performing Arts
- 2006 2nd performance scholarship from the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz
- 2007 1-year work grant from the Federal Chancellery
- 2007 Hörbiger Culture Prize
- 2007 Hans Koller Prize in the categories "Newcomer of the Year" and "Audience Prize". Besides Viola Falb , Auer is one of only two artists who have been awarded three times as part of the Hans Koller Prize.
- 2007 audience award of the concert series “JazzZeit” of the state capital Saarbrücken
