Matthias Löscher

Matthias Löscher , also Matt Pedals (born October 27, 1982 in Oberndorf near Salzburg ) is an Austrian jazz musician ( guitar ) and composer .

education

Löscher grew up in Salzburg . He started learning the cello at the age of 6 before switching to the guitar at the age of 14. He took guitar lessons from Wolfgang Pointner at the Musikum in Salzburg. In 2001 he graduated from the Musisches Gymnasium Salzburg . From 2000 he studied at the Anton Bruckner Private University with Andreas Schreiber , Christoph Cech and others; in 2007 he graduated with honors. Further studies were with Wolfgang Muthspiel , Peter Bernstein and Karl Ratzer .

In 2008 Löscher received a J. William Fulbright scholarship. He moved to New York City to study with John Abercrombie at Purchase College . In 2010 he graduated with honors as a Master of Arts . In 2011 he received the “Salzburg Annual Scholarship for Music”.

Career

Löscher played with Millions of Dreads and Werner Zangerle's quartet , among others . He worked with artists such as David Murray , Hamid Drake , Felix Mitterer and the opera group Neue Oper Wien as well as with the bands Texta and Blumentopf . For the band "Voice" he played keyboard on the album "Prediction". Löscher plays guitar in the band "SK Invitational" around Stephan Kondert.

Löscher is the band leader, together with Stephan Kondert and Daru Jones, of "The Ruff Pack", with which he released a live DVD in addition to the album releases and played during a three-week tour at the Blue Note jazz club in New York City.

Together with the singer “Lylit” (Eva Klampfer) he forms the “Lylit Löscher Duo”. In November 2011 the duo released their debut album "Duo".

In 2007 Löscher released his first album under his own name, "Vox", followed in 2009 by the album "Thoughts & Ideas". He has lived in New York City since 2008. He has been working with Lauryn Hill since 2016.
