Dietrich Leberecht von Schimonsky

Dietrich Leberecht von Schimonsky (born August 2, 1740 in Stolpe , Pomerania ; † February 21, 1826 at Gut Striese , Silesia ) was a Prussian major general and regiment chief of Infantry Regiment No. 40 .

Major General Christian Friedrich von Schimonski was his brother.

Life

Schimonsky was studying at the Albertus University of Königsberg when he joined the Prussian Army in 1758 at the beginning of the Seven Years' War . He received seven severe head wounds in the battle of Kunersdorf and was treated with three trepanations . He not only survived this, but later fought in the battles of Torgau and Freiberg . He stayed in the military and later fought in the War of the Bavarian Succession .

During the First Coalition War he led a grenadier battalion of Regiment "Schönfeld" No. 49 as a major . For its actions, the regiment received permission from King Friedrich Wilhelm II to carry a coat of arms with twelve cannons. On January 7, 1793, Schimonsky received the order Pour le Mérite for the battle near Hochheim .

On January 16, 1796 he became a colonel, on April 7, 1797 commander of the "Müffling" regiment No. 49 and on June 20, 1798 colonel with a patent on June 17, 1796. On October 20, 1805, he received the infantry regiment stationed in Schweidnitz No. 40 and was appointed major general on May 20, 1806 with a patent on May 26, 1806. With his regiment he went to the war of 1806 . He was captured during the surrender of Magdeburg and was placed inactive on November 11, 1806. On April 23, 1807, he was informed that his replacement could not take place before the court martial for the surrender of Magdeburg had been concluded. On November 14, 1809 the court martial ruled: The general was collected and sentenced to 2 years imprisonment in Glatz . On January 11, 1810, he received permission to serve his arrest in the city. In addition, on February 10, 1810, he was granted maintenance of 15 thalers a month. In 1812 he asked for a new trial; but that was refused on October 9, 1812. He then withdrew to his estates.
