Matthias Pichler

Matthias Pichler (* 10. May 1981 in Rum (Tirol) ) is an Austrian double bassist of the Modern Jazz .

biography

Matthias Pichler, like his twin brother, the later drummer Andreas Pichler , received trumpet lessons at the age of six ; he began his training on the double bass at the age of 15 at the Tyrolean State Conservatory . In 2000 he left Innsbruck to begin his jazz studies at the Anton Bruckner Private University in Linz . During several months in New York, in addition to numerous appearances, he had the opportunity to take lessons from bassists such as John Patitucci , Larry Grenadier and Marc Johnson . Concerts and international tours with Wolfgang Muthspiel ( Glow ), Harry Sokal , Maria Bill , Christof Dienz , XY-Band, GHO Orchestra, Jochen Rückert , Marc Copland , Mark Feldman , Louise Jensen, Dominykas Vysniauskas, Max von Mosch / Jonas Burgwinkel followed , Karl Ivar Refseth and many other artists.

Awards

In 2004 he received a New York scholarship as part of the Hans Koller Prize and in 2006 he was named “Sideman of the year”. In 2010 he won first prize at the international double bass congress "BASS2010" in Berlin in the jazz category. In a duo with his brother, he played in the 2015 final for the New German Jazz Prize .
