Malte Dürrschnabel (* 1982 in Rheinfelden (Baden) ) is a German modern jazz musician ( alto and soprano saxophone , flute , clarinet ).

Live and act

Dürrschnabel studied jazz saxophone at the Berlin University of the Arts and at the conservatories in Brussels and in The Hague. For many years he was part of the concert line-up at Bujazzo (with whom the album Calling South Africa was created). In 2008 he was visiting professor at the Universidad Javeriana in Bogotá .

He also worked as a composer for Magnus Schriefl's band Subtone , with whom he recorded several albums. He was also the lead altist for the WDR Big Band Cologne and was a member of Caroline Thon's Thonline Orchestra and Wil Saldens Glenn Miller Orchestra . He also performed with Al Porcino , Lalo Schifrin , Benny Golson , Ack van Rooyen and Theo Bleckmann ; He has already toured in more than 20 countries on five continents. In 2014 he presented his first album under his own name, which presents compositions by Billy Strayhorn .

Prizes and awards

With Subtone he won the prize for the best instrumentalist at the international jazz competition Tremplin Jazz in Avignon in 2008 .
