Menzel Mutzke
Menzel Mutzke (born November 29, 1984 in Bad Säckingen ) is a German jazz musician ( trumpet , composition).
Mutzke started playing the trumpet at the age of nine. After a few years of classical trumpet lessons, he studied with jazz trumpeter Daniel Schenker in Zurich. During this time he was a member of the Baden-Württemberg State Youth Jazz Orchestra and various jazz combos. In 2003 he won the first prize at Jugend jazzt . After graduating from school in 2004, Mutzke moved to Cologne to study with Andy Haderer . From 2005 he was a member of the Federal Jazz Orchestra under the direction of Peter Herbolzheimer . In 2007 he studied for a semester with Matthieu Michel in Lausanne . He took u. a. Lessons with Claudio Roditi , Ack van Rooyen , Henning Berg , Alex Sipiagin and Bert Joris .
Mutzke played at various international jazz festivals such as Jazz à Vienne , North Sea Jazz Festival and the Montreux Jazz Festival ; he also stepped u. a. with Dee Dee Bridgewater , Roy Hargrove , Maynard Ferguson and the James Brown Band. In 2008 he also performed with the trio of drummer Marcel Wasserfuhr, pianist Dieter Greifenberg and bassist Markus Braun . During this time he also played in the band of his brother, the singer Max Mutzke ; Furthermore, he worked with Christoph Moeckel , Lucas Leidinger , The Lazy Monk and Tentett of Pablo Held founded Mutzke in the spring of 2011, the formation Bloom with the idea of chamber music compositions for a trio with Volker Heinze on bass and Simon Seidl to write at the piano; the formation was then expanded to a quartet with Fabian Arends on drums. Mutzke has also been a member of the brass band Moop Mama since 2012 .
On May 29, 2020 his first solo album "Spring" was released. With since 2018 in Menzel Mutzke quartet are Pablo Held , Dietmar Fuhr , Silvio Morger .
