Markus Braun (* 1981 in Wipperfürth ) is a German modern jazz musician ( double bass , also electric bass ) and a sound engineer .

Life

Braun learned to play the electric home organ at the age of eight , and then to play the trumpet at the age of ten . At the age of 14 he became enthusiastic about punk rock and began to play the electric bass; from 1995 he received lessons; from 2001 he also took double bass lessons with Gunnar Plümer . Since 2002 he has been studying bass with Michael Schürmann and John Goldsby at the Folkwang-Hochschule ; In 2003 he moved to the Institute for Music and Media at the Robert Schumann University of Applied Sciences in Düsseldorf, where he studied sound and image. Between 2004 and 2006 he was a member of the Federal Jazz Orchestra and in 2007 of the European Masterclass Big Band , both under the direction of Peter Herbolzheimer .

With Oliver Maas and Bernd Oezsevim , Braun formed the trio Invisible Change in 2002 , with whom he recorded three albums. With Klaus Heidenreich , Tobias Wember and Silvio Morger he founded the band Hornstrom ; He was also a member of Maxime Bender's bands for several years , with whom he recorded several albums. He also appears with the band Leenders and can be heard on albums by Anne Czichowsky and Laia Genc . As a sound engineer, he recorded and produced albums by Matthias Bergmann , Matthias Schriefl , Frederik Köster , Robert Landfermann , Tobias Christl , Arne Donadell , Sven Decker or Katrin Scherer and was also involved in recordings by Udo Moll , Sidsel Endresen , Elliott Sharp and Stefano Scodanibbio , Matthias Muche and Sebastian Gramss involved.

Prizes and awards

In 2003, Braun was awarded a soloist prize at the Haarlem “Bigband Concours”. In 2003 he received first prize in the “Little Jazz Lion” competition. With the band Hornstrom he received the Straubing New Generation Jazz Prize in 2007 and the Biberacher Jazz Prize the following year .
