Matthias Bergmann (born March 7, 1972 in Emden ) is a German trumpeter and flugelhorn player of modern jazz .

Live and act

In 1989 Bergmann was a prizewinner at Jugend jazzt , received a sponsorship award at the Jazz Workshop in Trier in 1991 and was in the Lower Saxony Youth Jazz Orchestra from 1991 to 1996 and in the Federal Jazz Orchestra from 1995 to 1997 . 1992 to 1997 he studied at the Conservatory in Hilversum (today Conservatorium van Amsterdam ) a. a. with the trumpeter Ruud Breuls and Rob Madna .

From 1998 he was a member of Peter Herbolzheimer's Rhythm Combination and Brass . He is co-founder of the Cologne Contemporary Jazz Orchestra and played a. a. in the quartet of the pianist Andreas Schnermann , in the sextet of Florian Ross (Goethe-Institut tours 2002 in India and 2003 in Mexico), with the band Soko (around the Saxophonist Otto Jansen from Lower Saxony and the bassist Manfred Sauga , with African musicians, Princess of the Sun 1998, Prize Winner Jazz Podium Niedersachsen 1996) and Five (Prize Winner Jazz Podium Niedersachsen 1999, 2001, with the saxophonist Volker Winck ), with the Christoph Eidens Band (China Tour 2001), the J. Moods Quartet , in a duo with the pianist Jürgen Friedrich (thus winner of the Jazz Podium Niedersachsen 2001), in the quintet of the saxophonist Frank Sackenheim and leads his own quintets (partly with the saxophonist Paul Heller as co-leader).

In 2008 his first own album Still Time ( Jazz4Ever ) was released in a quintet with Claudius Valk (saxophone), Hanno Busch (guitar), Cord Heineking (bass), Jens Düppe drums and Hendrik Soll (piano / Fender Rhodes ); The album All the Light (FloatMusic) followed in 2016 , with the pianist Hendrik Soll added to the quintet.

Bergmann has been teaching trumpet at the Glen Buschmann Jazz Academy in Dortmund since 2001 , at jazz workshops and teaching regularly at the Prague Conservatory until 2006 . Since 2008 he has been teaching jazz trumpet at the Cologne University of Music .

Matthias Bergmann has lived in Cologne since 1997 .
