Ruud Breuls

Ruud Breuls (born December 4, 1962 in Urmond ) is a Dutch jazz musician ( trumpet , flugelhorn ).

Like his brothers and his father, Breuls first played as a trumpeter in the Sint Martinus fanfare in his native town; a Count Basie record sparked his interest in jazz. After finishing school, he studied at the Rotterdam Conservatory and then at the Hilversums Conservatory until he graduated in 1988 . From the 1990s he worked as a jazz trumpet teacher at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam . Since 1996 he has been solo trumpeter in the Metropole Orkest . He also played in the Highlight Jazz Orchestra , with Stylus Horns , Buddies in Soul , Major League , the Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw , the Dutch Jazz Orchestra , the Cubop City Big Band , the Timeless Jazz Orchestra , The Beets Brothers Orchestra and Bob Brook Meyers New Art Orchestra . Since spring 2014 he has been a trumpeter in the WDR Big Band Cologne .

Breuls is one of the most sought-after jazz musicians on the Dutch scene. As a freelance musician, he participated in over 300 recordings of albums; In 2009 he recorded his album Shades of Brown , which is a tribute to Clifford Brown . He has appeared with stars like Clark Terry , Randy and Michael Brecker , Jim McNeely , Vince Mendoza , Chris Potter , Herbie Hancock , John Scofield and Billy Cobham . He also belonged to the bands of John Engels and Niki Jacobs.

Breuls received the Wessel-Ilcken Young Talent Award for jazz musicians in 1988; last received the Laren Jazz Award in 2013 .
