The Paulet I is propelled with solid fuel and has no active flight control, the course is determined by the orientation of the launch pad. Guide fins are used for aerodynamic control.
Types and starts
The launch facilities are located at the Punta Lobos base in the Pucusana district south of Lima .
The first launch of a Paulet I took place on December 27, 2006. Megan Paulet, daughter of the late Pedro Paulet , after whom the rocket is named, pressed the start button . The engine burned for about 12 seconds, after which the rocket continued to climb without propulsion and reached an altitude of 45 km after 100 seconds of flight. 60 km were planned. After that, the rocket fell into the Pacific, no recovery was planned. The Peruvian Post issued two special stamps for this in 2007.
The second launch took place on September 2, 2009 with the name Paulet IM . With 90 km the previously reached height has been doubled.
The third example, the Paulet IB , was made entirely in Peru. It reached an altitude of 15 km on June 11, 2013. After the launch, CONIDA announced further suborbital launches for 2014 and 2016, as well as an orbital launch in 2020.
