Punta Lobos

Punta Lobos (also called Chilca ) is a launch site for sounding rockets and research balloons in Peru . It is located near the town of Chilca in the Pucusana district, about 70 km south of the center of Lima .
After the founding of the Peruvian space agency CONIDA , a rocket launch site was built on the Pacific coast in 1974. Its proximity to the magnetic equator makes it particularly suitable for exploring the ionosphere .
The area belongs to the Peruvian Air Force . The main building offers space for offices, the control center and scientific equipment. The launch complex is about 1.5 km southwest of it. The facilities for preparation, integration, testing and start are located here.
In cooperation with foreign authorities, sounding rockets of various types were launched from here between 1974 and 1983. During the first take-off on March 29, 1974 (local time: March 28), a Canadian Black Brant 4B reached an altitude of 742 km. The Peruvian rocket Paulet I has been taking off from here since 2006 .

At the end of 2015, the Centro Nacional de Operaciones de Imágenes Satelitales (CNOIS) was opened here, which was built on an area of 3,600 square meters .
