The Nike Tomahawk is an American sounding rocket consisting of a Nike launch stage and a Tomahawk upper stage. It belongs to the group of step rockets .

Technical specifications

The Nike Tomahawk has a declared peak height of 370 kilometers, a payload of 45 kg, a launch thrust of 217 kN, a launch mass of 990 kg, a diameter of 0.42 m and a length of 10.80 m. The Nike Tomahawk was launched 395 times between June 25, 1963 and November 27, 1995.

Supplemented by a Taurus as the first stage, 15.30 m long three-stage rockets of the type Taurus Nike Tomahawk (also: TNT, Taurus Tomahawk Nike) were launched - 17 times from 1983 to 1991.
