Henning Gailing (* 1965 ) is a German jazz musician ( double bass , electric bass ).

Act

Gailing studied jazz bass at the Cologne University of Music and Dance with John Goldsby and Dieter Manderscheid ; he also received lessons from Ray Brown and Chuck Israels . He took classical lessons with Thierry Barbe and Gottfried Engels ( Düsseldorfer Symphoniker ).

For 25 years he has been part of the trio of pianist Martin Sasse , whom he has accompanied on several albums. He has performed with musicians such as Dan Barrett , Brian Lynch , Joe Diorio , Jiggs Whigham , Judy Niemack , John Marshall , John Ruocco , Ethan Iverson , Bill Dobbins , Ferdinand Povel , Jesse van Ruller , Greetje Kauffeld , Matt Wilson , Bert Joris , Bruno Castellucci , Olaf Polziehn , Paul Heller , Engelbert Wrobel , Peter Fessler , Dusko Goykovich , Howard Alden , Jochen Rückert , Mario Gonzi or Bill Allred . He accompanied Mark Murphy at the Istanbul International Jazz Festival and the North Sea Jazz Festival , Lee Konitz at Pori Jazz and the Brecon Jazz Festival .

He can also be heard on sound carriers by Steve Klink, Gregory Hutchinson , Silvia Droste , Kevin Mahogany , Denis Gäbel , Tom Gaebel , Thomas Rückert , Matthias Erlewein , Paul Kuhn and Tony Lakatos . He was also involved in productions by the NDR big band (Frank Zappa program) and the hr big band (feat. Regina Carter ).

In addition, from 2003 to 2015 he worked as a lecturer for double bass and ensemble management at the Mainz University of Music . Since 2015 he has been teaching at the Rheinische Musikschule Köln .
