Oliver Mewes

Oliver Mewes (* 1967 in Cologne ) is a German jazz musician ( drums ).

Career

Mewes studied drums at the Cologne University of Music and took lessons from John Riley and Victor Lewis . He has played with the Olaf Polziehn Trio, the Echoes of Swing Orchestra , Engelbert Wrobels Swing Society and the International Hot Jazz Quartet and has been a member of the Echoes of Swing since it was founded in 1998 . Mewes also worked with Hazy Osterwald , Dan Barrett , Don Menza , Duke Heitger , Bucky Pizzarelli , Harry Allen , Bob Barnard , Lillian Boutté , Bobby Shew , Leroy Jones and Bill Dobbins ,

In terms of style, Oliver Mewes can primarily be classified in the swing of the 1930s and 1940s, influences from early jazz and ragtime drummers can be heard as well as the classic playing style of swing drummers such as Gene Krupa and Jo Jones .
