Duke Heitger

Duke Heitger (born May 10, 1968 in Toledo , Ohio ) is an American trumpeter and bandleader of traditional jazz .

Live and act

Heitger, who came to jazz through his father's record collection, began playing in his father's band at the age of twelve. In 1991 he came to New Orleans to join Jacques Gauthé's Creole Rice Jazz Band . In 1998 he took over the management of the Steamboat Stompers ; he also led his own bands. The trained geologist has recorded six albums under his own name; in a duo with Bernd Lhotzky , Doin 'the Voom Voom was created for Arbors Records . He has also worked with Dan Barrett , Marty Grosz , Dick Hyman , Engelbert Wrobel , John Gill and Banu Gibson . He has performed at the Hollywood Bowl , the Edinburgh Jazz & Blues Festival and Jazz Ascona . He also toured with the Statesmen of Jazz , which included Warren Vaché , John Allred , Howard Alden and Ken Peplowski . He can also be heard on albums by John Cleary, Jack Maheu , the Squirrel Nut Zippers and Joe Muranyi .
