Howard Alden (* 17th October 1958 in Newport Beach , California) is a jazz - guitarist .

biography

Alden began learning guitar at the age of ten and began performing publicly in Los Angeles as a teenager . There he befriended trombonist Dan Barrett and worked with Red Norvo in 1979 . In 1982 he moved to New York City with Barrett , where they formed a quintet (including with Chuck Wilson ). He played with various jazz greats, for example with Dizzy Gillespie , Woody Herman , Bud Freeman , Benny Carter , Clark Terry , Joe Williams , Joe Bushkin , Ruby Braff and Flip Phillips . In 1999, Alden arranged for Dick Hyman's soundtrack to the Woody Allen film Sweet and Lowdown (and played solo guitar on the soundtrack). He led his own trio and has regularly released albums to the present day, including productions with Barrett, Joe Byrd , Anat Cohen , Warren Vaché , Maurice Hines and Ken Peplowski as well as duos with Bucky Pizzarelli , George Van Eps and Dave Cliff .
