Chuck Wilson

Charles Dee "Chuck" Wilson (born July 31, 1948 in Wichita Falls ; † October 16, 2018 ) was an American jazz musician ( alto saxophone , also other woodwind instruments ).

Wilson began playing the saxophone at the age of eleven; he led his own trio as a schoolboy. He graduated from North Texas State University . Since then he has played in various big bands , first with Jerry Gray and (between 1977 and 1980) with Buddy Rich . During the 1980s he worked in New York as a studio musician , but was also part of the ensembles of Tito Puente (1980–81), Gerry Mulligan (1981–1989), Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons (1982–1992), Bob Wilber ( 1983), Loren Schoenberg (1984), Benny Goodman (1985-86), Buck Clayton (1986-90), and Walt Levinsky . He was also a member of the Howard Alden and Dan Barrett quintet . Since 1996 he has led his own band, Chuck Wilson and Friends , in which Murray Wall , Alden and Joel Helleny were active. In 2010 his debut album Echos of Spring was released .

Since 1991 he has continued to work as a musician in numerous performances on Broadway . He also performed with The Young Generation of Swing in Germany. Between 1968 and 2009 he was involved in 104 recordings in the field of jazz.
