Ralf Hesse

Ralf Hesse (born March 11, 1972 in Stuttgart ) is a German jazz musician ( trumpet , flugelhorn , arrangement and composition ).

Live and act

Hesse had first trumpet lessons in 1980; In 1985, 1987 and 1990 he was a prizewinner at " Jugend jazzt " Baden-Württemberg. From 1988 to 1990 he played in the Baden-Württemberg Youth Jazz Orchestra, and in the early 1990s he appeared with The Young Generation of Swing and the Federal Youth Jazz Orchestra , with which he made his first recordings in 1993. In 1997 he completed his studies in jazz trumpet at the Cologne University of Music with a diploma. Between 2009 and 2011 he completed the master's degree in jazz composition / arrangement at the Mannheim University of Music .

Since 2000 he has led his own group together with the saxophonist Marcus Bartelt, to which Martin Sasse belonged; In 2001 their CD Happy Weeks was released . He also played u. a. in the big bands of WDR , HR , SWR and RIAS , with Bob Brookmeyer's New Art Orchestra, Peter Herbolzheimer's Rhythm Combination & Brass and in Albert Mangelsdorff's German-French Jazz Ensemble; He also worked on recordings by Bobby Burgess , Ansgar Striepens / Ed Partyka ( Tunnel Vision - Music for Jazz Orchestra , 1997), Claus Koch ( Snooki-ing , 2002), Florian Trübsbach , Oliver Groenewald , Al Porcino and Chris Walden . In 1994 he was one of the founding members of the Sunday Night Orchestra .

Hesse has been a member of the Pepe Lienhard Orchestra since 2006 . As a composer and arranger, Hesse a. a. for the SWR Big Band, the orchestra Pepe Lienhard, Helen Schneider , Götz Alsmann , Lang Lang , Udo Jürgens and the Sunday Night Orchestra; he also has a teaching position at the Detmold University of Music . In the field of jazz he was involved in 24 recording sessions between 1992 and 2011.
