Banu Gibson (born October 24, 1947 in Dayton , Ohio ) is an American singer of traditional jazz.

Live and act

Gibson grew up in Hollywood, Florida and concentrated on ballet lessons in her childhood and adolescence, but also took singing lessons from an opera singer. From 1967 she first appeared in a nightclub in Miami alongside Phil Napoleon . Then she went on tour with Your Father's Mustache (1969–1972). Since 1973 she lived in New Orleans, where she also worked as a choreographer. She also learned the banjo . In 1981 she founded her sextet. Gibson toured Europe with Wild Bill Davison , but also with her New Orleans Hot Jazz Orchestra . She performed in Japan with the World's Greatest Jazz Band . Dick Hyman brought her to New York City. Since 1981 she has released 13 albums under her own name so far (2017).
