Echoes of Swing

The Echoes Of Swing are an international quartet of traditional and mainstream jazz that has consisted of Colin T. Dawson ( trumpet ), Chris Hopkins ( alto saxophone , clarinet , conductor), Bernd Lhotzky ( piano ) and Oliver Mewes ( drums ) since 1998 .

history

The musicians originally got together for a spontaneous jam session in 1997 ; Hopkins founded the band in 1998 and performed with them for the first time at the international jazz festival JazzAscona . Stylistically, the quartet initially dedicated itself to jazz of the 1920s and 1930s, but in recent years also opened up towards bebop .

The combo also presents its own compositions and impresses with a funny stage show. The band has toured with more than 1000 concerts all over Europe as well as in North America, Japan, New Zealand and even in the South Seas.

Prizes and awards

The group received the Swinging Hamburg Jazz Award in 2011 . Hopkins was honored in 2013 with the Echoes of Swing from the Park Lane Jazz Club Osnabrück as Keeper of the Flame and in 2017 with the Jazz Pott Award. The album Message from Mars was awarded the Prix ​​de l ' Académie du Jazz and the German Record Critics' Prize.
