JazzAscona
JazzAscona is an annual summer music festival in the Swiss city of Ascona in the canton of Ticino .
The approximately eleven-day event is strongly associated with New Orleans and classical jazz . The musical spectrum ranges from classic to modern swing , from Dixieland to blues , from gospel to traditional New Orleans jazz . Overall, the event includes around 200 concerts at several locations across the city with national and international musicians. The artistic director of the festival is Nicolas Gilliet.
Since its first edition in 1985, JazzAscona has developed into one of the largest jazz events in Europe. To celebrate its twentieth anniversary in 2004, in which, among other Wendell Brunious , Jeremy Davenport , Bob French , Niki Haris , Red Holloway , Leroy Jones , Plas Johnson , Eddie Locke , Ed Polcer , Herlin Riley , Rhoda Scott and Warren Vache occurred, reached the festival reached its previous visitor record with more than 80,000 spectators. Since then, the number of visitors has leveled off between 60,000 and 70,000. The event is organized by the regional tourism association Ente Turistico Logo Maggiore . Together with Radio Swiss Jazz , the festival awards the Swiss Jazz Award every year on the last day .
