Max von Mosch (* 1980 in Starnberg ) is a German jazz musician ( tenor and soprano saxophone , also bass clarinet , composition ).

Live and act

Mosch, who grew up in Gauting , began playing the piano at the age of eight. At the age of eleven he switched to the saxophone; as a teenager he was active in various ensembles in the Munich music scene. Between 1999 and 2001 he was part of the Bavarian State Youth Jazz Orchestra, with which he also appeared in St. Petersburg and Moscow. From 2000 to 2006 studied at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam ; as an exchange student he spent one semester each at the Berlin University of the Arts (2002/2003) and at the Manhattan School of Music in New York (2005). Between 2002 and 2004 he also belonged to the Bujazzo under the direction of Peter Herbolzheimer . From September 2008 to December 2010 he studied at the New England Conservatory in Boston. His teachers include Ferdinand Povel , Dick Oatts , Michael Abene , George Garzone , Billy Hart , and Miguel Zenón .

In 1999 he founded the max.bab quartet together with pianist Benedikt Jahnel , bassist Benny Schäfer and drummer Andi Haberl , which has remained unchanged to this day. The quartet, which released seven albums, also worked with Charlie Mariano , David Friedman and Wolfgang Muthspiel , performed at Jazz Baltica and the Montreal Jazz Festival , and completed international tours on behalf of the Goethe Institute .

With the guitarist Max Frankl and the bassist Henning Sieverts he formed the trio Francis Drake , which recorded the album Stories in 2010 . He presented his suite-like compositions in the large-format and prominent Max von Mosch Orchestra , which could also be seen live on Bavarian television in 2012. He also plays in a trio with Matthias Pichler and Jonas Burgwinkel . He also arranged for Edsilia Rombley .

Prizes and awards

With max.bab , Mosch won numerous prizes, including the international jazz competition in Ústí nad Labem 2000 (Czech Republic), the national competition " Jugend jazzt " 2001, where he was awarded the soloist prize, and the 2001 Biberach jazz prize . For artistic and cultural engagement he was awarded the Günther-Klinge-Kulturpreis of the community of Gauting in 2005.
