Martin Scales

Martin Scales (born September 26, 1967 in Garmisch-Partenkirchen ) is a British-German jazz guitarist and composer.

Live and act

Martin Scales started playing guitar at the age of ten. At the age of 15 he was already making regular appearances with cover bands in the clubs and hotels of the US Army in Garmisch-Partenkirchen and the surrounding area. At the same time, interest in jazz grew. At 19 he took private lessons from jazz guitarist Peter O'Mara and founded his own jazz ensemble with Johannes Enders and his brother Patrick Scales . After studying at the renowned New School in New York City, with Adam Nussbaum , Joe Chambers , Garry Dial , Mike Stern and Vic Juris and at the Cologne University of Music , he lived in Munich until 2007.

Between 1997 and 2002 he was guitarist on all episodes of the TV show Bullyparade ( Pro7 ). In 2007 he moved his center of life to Frankfurt, where he has been a permanent member of the hr big band ever since . In 2007 he became a lecturer for jazz guitar at the Freiburg University of Music .

Together with his brother Patrick Scales (electric bass) he released three CDs under his own name, including Grounded , which was released on Blue Note Records .

Like his brother, he has been a member of Klaus Doldingers Passport since 2014 .
