Sabina Hank (* 2. May 1976 in Salzburg ) is an Austrian jazz - pianist - singer , -Komponistin & Synästhesistin .

Life and professional development

Sabina Hank comes from a family of musicians and was accepted with absolute hearing at the Mozarteum Salzburg at the age of 5, where she trained on the piano for 13 years. She made her first studio recordings at the age of 5. After her classical career, the synaesthesiologist (she hears in colors) studied jazz singing and jazz piano at the Bruckner University in Linz for 5 years before breaking off shortly before completing her studies in order to concentrate completely on life as a freelance musician. She has always studied composition autodidactically and in silence.

Sabina Hank has been a band & co-leader since 1997 (collaboration with, among others, Willi Resetarits ("Evening Songs"), Josef Hader ("Suspicious Songs"), Hubert von Goisern ("Love Colors"), Bob Mintzer ("Blue Notes On Christmas "), Werner Pirchner , die Strottern , Harry Ahamer , Maria Schneider , Garry Dial , Dick Oatts , Martin Scales , Peter O'Mara , and many more) and appears at international jazz festivals all over the world. As a composer, she received numerous composition commissions for film & theater (including Theater in der Josefstadt , Volkstheater Vienna , Landestheater Salzburg , Schauspielhaus Bochum etc.) and worked with renowned directors such as Leander Haußmann and Michael Schottenberg .

Since 2008 she has also worked closely with the violinist Benjamin Schmid , who is at home in both classical and jazz . In 2008 the violin concerto "Three Songs For An Abandoned Angel", dedicated to him, was premiered at Mattsee's "Diabellisommer", and in 2010 the project "Benjamin Schmid plays Gulda & Hank" premiered at the Salzburg Jazz Autumn . In her current band projects she plays together with her long-term musical partners and side men Christian Lettner , Christian Wendt, Tom Reif, Alex Meik, Klaus Pérez-Salado and her ex-husband Herb Berger , with whom she has been musically connected since 1994.

After two record deals with the Quinton Records (2001-2005) & Universal Music (2006-2009) labels , Sabina Hank founded her own label “meander records” in 2009, on which she now produces and sells her albums herself. Since 2010 the musician has also been teaching at the Mozarteum University and holds lectures and workshops on the subject of “Integrative Improvisation & Composition in Jazz” & “I-Music Management” - creative self-marketing channels for freelance musicians.

Private

Sabina Hank was in a relationship with the musician Herb Berger from 1994 to 2009 , with whom she was also married. Her daughter was born in autumn 2012, and she and ORF presenter Martin Ferdiny have her. Sabina Hank lives with her daughter as a single parent in a small mountain village near Salzburg.
