Mark Feldman

Mark Feldman (born July 17, 1955 in Chicago ) is a jazz and classical violinist and composer.

Live and act

Feldman had a private music education, u. a. with Joe Daley , and has been a musician in the Civic Orchestra and clubs in Chicago since 1973 . Between 1980 and 1986 he worked in Nashville as a studio musician (where he was involved in the recording of more than 200 records). He then moved to New York City , where he initially worked in the environment of John Zorn and played with Dave Douglas , Michael Jefry Stevens , Uri Caine and Don Byron , but also with Billy Hart . He has been involved in recordings by Michael Brecker , Lee Konitz , Joe Lovano , Josh Roseman ( Treats for the Nightwalker 2003) and Chris Potter . He was a member of the Arcado String Trio . In New York's Lincoln Center he played in a duo with pianists Paul Bley and Muhal Richard Abrams . He also appears regularly in a duo with the pianist Sylvie Courvoisier , with whom he is married. He continued to play in the quartet of John Abercrombie .

Feldman has also emerged as a composer. In 1995 he released Music for Violin Alone on Tzadik Records ; the Book of Tells published by Enja contains his music for string quartet.

He continued to play with Hans Lüdemann , Simon Nabatov and Wilbert de Joode . In 2003 he was the soloist in Guus Janssen's Violin Concerto; with the WDR Big Band Cologne he performed Bill Dobbins' Concerto for Violin and Jazz Orchestra .
