Wilbert de Joode (born May 11, 1955 in Amsterdam ) is a Dutch jazz bassist.

Live and act

De Joode is a musical autodidact . He has been playing the double bass since 1982 and played in bands of Vera Vingerhoeds , Armando Cairo and Ig Henneman in the mid-1980s . In 1990 he became a member of the Ab Baars trio . He also worked with other formations such as the Eric Boeren 4tet (with Han Bennink and Michael Moore ), the big band and the trio of Michiel Braam , various bands from Joost Buis , the trio Fuhler / Bennink / DeJoode , the duo Nora Mulder , the Chris Abelen Quintet , a trio with Achim Kaufmann and Frank Gratkowski (occasionally added to the quartet with Tony Buck ) and the group Intermission .

With the bass saxophonist Klaas Hekman he founded a bass group, which u. a. performed with William Parker and Hideji Taninaka . De Joode also gave concerts as a soloist and in a duo with Tobias Delius and participated in dance projects by David Zambrano and Eileen Standley . Gerard Ammerlaan composed the piece Common Sense for improvising double bass and string orchestra for him , which he performed several times with the Nederelands Jeugd StrijkOrkest under Roland Kieft .

Awards

In 2016 he was awarded the Dutch Buma Boy Edgar Prijz.
