Ig Henneman

Ig Henneman (born December 21, 1945 in Haarlem ) is a Dutch violist and composer who works in the field of jazz and improvised music .

Henneman studied violin and viola at the Conservatories of Amsterdam and Tilburg . She began her musical career as a viola player in a symphony orchestra. Then she founded the rock band FC Gerania in 1979 , for which she also composed. From 1982 to 1985 she also played in Nedly Elstak's improvisation groups Several Singers and a Horn and in his Paradise Regained Orchestra . From 1985 she began to lead her own groups in the field of jazz and improvised music and to compose for these bands.

She worked with Wolter Wierbos , Peggy Lee , Annemarie Roelofs , Wilbert de Joode , Ab Baars, Misha Mengelberg , Theo Jörgensmann , Tristan Honsinger , Mary Oliver , Roswell Rudd , Han Buhrs and Mark Helias , among others . Together with the woodwind player Lori Freedman and the pianist Marilyn Lerner , she forms the Queen Mab Trio , with whom she has recorded two albums and performed at the Festival International de Jazz de Montréal and other international festivals.

She wrote compositions for the Metropole Orkest , Orkest De Volharding , Resedentie Orchestra and others. Her partner is the Dutch clarinetist and saxophonist Ab Baars , with whom she also heads the WIG Foundation.
