Han Buhrs

Han Buhrs (born February 23, 1955 in Horn (Limburg) ) is a Dutch vocalist and composer who has mainly emerged in the field of avant-garde rock and new improvisational music.

Live and act

Under the influence of Captain Beefheart and Pere Ubu , he founded the bands Remo Tobs , The Schismatics (which also included Sean Bergin , Rutger van Otterloo and Maartje ten Hoorn ) and Nine Tobs in the 1980s , for which he also wrote and wrote. He developed a singing technique with two microphones, one of which was electronically processed. From 1992 he played in the Trio Diftong with Cor Fuhler and Michael Vatcher . From 1995 he worked with Palinckx and with The Ex , since 1998 withIg Henneman and since 2001 with Luc Houtkamp's POW Ensemble. In 1999 he founded the Trio Gut 3 with Alan Purves and Johannes Bauer . Furthermore, he led his quartet Rubatong and also gave solo concerts. He can also be heard on recordings by Ornament & Crime Arkhestra, Palinckx, The Ex Orchestra , Ig Henneman, Luc Houtkamp and Sean Bergin. He has performed at international festivals such as Moers Festival , Pori Jazz , the Ulrichsdorfer Kaleidophon and Victoriaville.

In 1993 he was awarded the Podiumprijs by the Stichting Jazz in Nederland for “Talent Deserving Wider Recognition”.
