Jan Klare (born August 23, 1961 in Hohenlimburg ) is a German jazz musician (saxophonist, flutist and clarinetist) and composer . His brother is the journalist Jörn Klare .

Live and act

Jan Klare lived in Düsseldorf from 1979 to 1986, where he took part in the production of the folk jazz group Gandalin for WDR . From 1987 to 1990 he lived in London. There he performed with Dean Brodrick , Harry Beckett and Ricardo Santos and worked on various record productions.

From 1990 he studied saxophone at the Amsterdam School of Arts . Since then he has worked as a sideman for musicians such as Frank Köllges , Conny Bauer , Dagmar Krause , Alfred Spirli , Anna Homler and FM Einheit , Bill Elgart , Wilbert de Joode , Han Buhrs, Michael Vatcher , Michiel Braam , Luc Ex , Achim Kaufmann ; in addition, he led various own formations.

In 1993 a group was formed with Tom Lorenz (vibraphone, percussion, synthesizer, composition) (until 2002), in his place from 2003 onwards Martin Scholz (organ), Hartmut Kracht (bass) and Wolfgang Ekholt (drums), which after their debut album Das called bad thing . With Frank Köllges and Hartmut Kracht made clear early 2000s, the group Autofab , at the same time he led with Peter Eisold the group Supernova .

From the concert series 1000 Years of Jazz , the group 1000 (with Bart Maris , trumpet, Wilbert de Joode , bass and Michael Vatcher , drums) emerged in 2004 , whose repertoire is based on adaptations of compositions of Gregorian chant by Johann Sebastian Bach , Richard Wagner , Claudio Monteverdi and others based. The Dorf (the band formerly known as the "off domicil orchestra") is a big band that has been performing under Klares since 2006 with a changing line-up at the Dortmund jazz club Domicil . In 2013, the large formation The Dorf received the Ruhr Jazz Prize endowed with € 10,000 .

In the winter of 2008, Klare founded the You Are so Me project with drummer Simon Camatta and organist Oliver Siegel . He is also a member of the bass saxophone quartet Deep Schrott, founded in 2008, with Wollie Kaiser , Andreas Kaling and Dirk Raulf .

Klare also composed works for ensembles for new music and jazz big bands as well as for the stage, among other things, the chamber opera I was the tie of Prince Claus .
