Serge Corteyn

Serge Corteyn (born August 25, 1967 in Bensberg ) is a Belgian fusion musician .

Live and act

Corteyn experimented early with his parents' tape recorder and learned to play the guitar . In 1981 he founded his first band and, in addition to a commercial apprenticeship, performed with various bands from 1985. From 1989 to 1995 he studied jazz guitar at the Dutch Hogeschool voor de kunsten Arnhem . In 1992 his rock band Unknown Pleasure won the Ruhrrock Festival and got a contract with MCA ; the album was never released.

Corteyn works as a multi-instrumentalist , songwriter and producer. He belonged to bands in different musical styles such as transwagon or Obst Obscure . Since 2008 he has been a member of the large formation The Dorf , with which he released several albums and received the WDR Jazz Prize 2019; he also plays with Jan Klare and Martin Thissen in the trio The Staub ; he was also involved in the album Jake Playmo: My Favorite Toys . He works with Manuel Loos in his band Serge und die Unterwasserwanderer . In 2017 his solo album Lose Endings was released .

Since 2008 he has also worked as a stage musician and composer for theater, dance and performance at various theaters. In the Zeitmaul Theater in Bochum he is a. a. active as initiator of the monthly Wirewagna series , a project at the interface between music and visual arts.
