The Dorf is a music group (large formation) based in the Ruhr area from the fields of jazz , krautrock and experimental music. The band was founded by Jan Klare in 2006 as an off domicil orchestra and was initially a kind of house band of the Dortmund jazz club Domicil . Over the years the band grew from around 15 members and stabilized with around 25 players.
In 2013, The Dorf received the Ruhr Jazz Prize endowed with € 10,000. In 2020 the band will receive the honorary award of the WDR Jazz Prize.
