John-Dennis Renken

John-Dennis Renken (* 1981 in Bremen ) is a German jazz and improvisation musician ( trumpet , composition).

Renken has lived in Essen since he began his studies in 2002, which he completed at Folkwang University . He initially belonged to the NRW Youth Jazz Orchestra and to the Bujazzo , with which he also recorded in 2005. Concerts and tours have taken him to Morocco, Central America, Italy, Sweden and the Czech Republic. He also performed the music of his Zodiak Trio with the WDR Big Band (for example at the Jazzfest Bonn 2014). He also worked on projects by Angelika Niescier , John Thomsen, Marsen Jules , André Nendza , Michael Wollny , Wolfgang Schmidtke ( Monk! ) And with the ufo Big Band , Oma Heinz and with Jan Klares The Dorf . At the Essen theater he was on stage with his trumpet as a so-called "live music installation" in Parsifal (based on the opera of the same name by Richard Wagner and the play by Tankred Dorst ). He also appeared several times (most recently in 2017) at the Moers Festival , but also at the Trytone Festival in Amsterdam, the Jazztopad Festival in Wrocław or the Jazzahead in Bremen. He can also be heard on albums by Katrin Scherer's The Bliss , The Dorf , Stefan Schultze and Eric Schaefer + The Shredz.

Renken also has a teaching position for jazz trumpet at the Folkwang University and teaches music education at the Maria-Wächtler-Gymnasium in Essen.

Renken has received sponsorship awards (including JazzBremen, Young Energy). In 2016 he became improviser in residence in Moers .
