Oona Kastner

Oona Kastner (* 1965 in Emsdetten ) is a German improvisation musician ( vocals , piano , keyboards , electronics ).

Kastner started playing the piano at the age of four. After school, she studied classical piano and oboe at what was then the Folkwang Music Academy in Essen . She became increasingly interested in new improvisation music and did a voice and body work training . She has lived in Bielefeld since 1989.

Since 2005 Kastner has been designing themed evening programs with the light artist Markus Felthaus and Ruth Seiler, the cantor of the Neustädter Marienkirche Bielefeld. Kastner released a solo album in 2018 on which she interpreted songs by Leonard Cohen , Neil Young and Radiohead in a minimalist way.

Kastner has played in the Duplex Mesh Trio with the pianist Markus Schwartze and the cellist Willem Schulz since 2014 . In the duo Pavoon she performed with the Czech drummer Pavel Fajt , in the duo door with the saxophonist Dirk Raulf . The album Songs from the Darkness , which she released with Raulf, was placed on the list of the best for the German Record Critics' Award for the third quarter of 2019 . She has also been a member of Jan Klar's large ensemble The Dorf since 2018 . She also leads Bielefeld's first experimental choir ChorXtrem .
