Chris Abelen

Christiaan "Chris" Mathias Maria Abelen (born September 29, 1959 in Tilburg ) is a Dutch jazz trombonist .

Live and act

Abelen first learned the trumpet at the age of seven before switching to the trombone at the age of 18 and founding a big band for which he also arranged. He first studied classical trombone in Tilburg, then jazz trombone in Amsterdam with Willem van Manen . From 1984 to 1987 he belonged to the Willem Breuker Kollektief ; he also played in the formations of Freek de Jonge and Dick de Graaf (1988) and in the orchestra of JC Tans (1988-1989). From 1989 to 2000 he was a member of the Contraband (with Theo Jörgensmann and Paul van Kemenade , among others ); In 1991 and 1992 he was also part of Eric van der Westen's band . In Tentett duty system was established in 1992 Abelens debut album Proost , followed by Dance of the Penguins in quintet. In the field of jazz he was involved in 18 recording sessions between 1984 and 2004, in addition to the aforementioned also with the Paradise Regained Orchestra (album Nedly Elstak 's Paradise Lost and Regained Suite ) and Bo van de Graaf's I Compani . He lives in Haarlem .
