Bo van de Graaf
Bo van de Graaf (born December 27, 1957 in Nijmegen ) is a Dutch jazz musician ( alto saxophone , piano , soprano and tenor saxophone , arrangement , composition ).
Live and act
Van de Graaf received piano lessons from the age of ten. At the age of 18 he switched to the saxophone, on which John Coltrane , Archie Shepp and Gato Barbieri inspired him. He attended workshops with Niko Langenhuijsen and plays in the orchestra De Boventoon by Herman de Wit and Willem van Manen . In Nijmegen he led the improvisation ensemble Morpheus White Music and was involved in the Nijmeegse Werkgroep Improvisatie Muziek (WIM), which mainly organized concerts. With the group Neptet he released the LP How Is Life at 4 AM? . The following year he recorded the album O42 Suite with WIM , which contains one of his compositions. In 1983 bassist Ed de Vos brought him to his Prisma Orkest , where he stayed until 1986.
In 1985 van de Graaf founded the septet I Compani , which became famous with its own adaptations of the film music by Nino Rota ; these were recorded for the BVHaast label. Other projects follow such as Dirty Minutes (1993), Gluteus Maximus (1997l), Zomerdaken (1999), Aïda (2000), De Liefde, Natuurlijk (2006), Circusism (2007), Last Tango In Paris (2008) or Mangiare! (2010).
In 1986 he also played in the first edition of Michiel Braam's Bik Bent Braam , whom he brought into his Bo's Art Trio in 1988, as did drummer Fred van Duynhoven , which was repeatedly active. In 1988 trombonist Chris Abelen brought him into his sextet. He was also part of Bernard Hunnekink's ensemble . In 1995 he founded The Big Swifty and soon afterwards Het Orkest van Count Bosie , with whom he interpreted compositions by Frank Zappa and Astor Piazzolla , among others . He also performed a concert for 750 bicycle bells and concerts for plastic waste.
