Raphael Meinhart

Raphael Meinhart (born March 1986 in Deutschlandsberg ) is an Austrian jazz musician ( vibraphone , marimbaphone , composition ).

Live and act

Meinhart, whose father Günter Meinhart is a percussionist and directs the percussion ensemble Studio Percussion Graz , grew up in Graz; as early as 1997 he gave concerts with the Waldbach brass band. First he studied classical percussion as well as instrumental and vocal pedagogy at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz , and then studied jazz vibraphone at the Berlin University of the Arts .

During his studies he performed in numerous European countries. He realized concerts and productions with his own projects such as Who Man Dog, Unchain Meinhart , but also Trio De Janeiro , the Studio Percussion Graz and Susana Sawoff. With Takumi Motokawa and Shackleton featuring Heather Leigh he formed the ensemble Tunes of Negation .

Since 2015 he has played with Susana Sawoff in the duo Exit Universe , which released the album Because the World Is Round in 2018 . He can also be heard on albums by Anna-Marlene Bicking , Peter Lenz Silent Flow , Reinhold Schmölzer's Orchestra • ra • conteur and Laura Winkler's Wabi-Sabi Orchestra . He is also a founding member of the KIM Collective for composed and improvised music in Berlin.

Prizes and awards

Meinhart won national prizes at Prima la musica in 2001 and 2005. In 2010 he received the New York Scholarship from the Hans Koller Prize , and in 2013 the Elsa Neumann Scholarship from the Berlin Art University.
