Reinhold "Reini" Schmölzer (born November 22, 1983 in Radenthein , Carinthia ) is an Austrian jazz musician ( drums , composition and arrangement ).

Life

Schmölzer grew up in Radenthein and received drum lessons at the music school Spittal an der Drau from the age of 7 . There he was able to gain his first experience in various jazz / pop bands and classical orchestras. After graduating from school, he deepened his percussion and composition studies at the Carinthian State Conservatory , University of Music and Performing Arts Graz and the Jazz Institute Berlin a . a. with Erich Bachträgl , Howard Curtis III, Ed Partyka , John Hollenbeck and David Friedman (vibraphonist) .

In addition to his sideman work as a drummer in various projects, Schmölzer also works as an arranger and composer. In 2012 his debut album “Miraculous Loss Of Signal” was released with the 19-piece jazz orchestra “orchest • ra • conteur” on the Swiss label Unit Records . In 2016, the orchestra's second album "Aerial Image" followed on the same label.

In 2013 he became the Metropole Orkest “Arrangers Workshop feat. Richard Bona ”under the direction of Vince Mendoza .

He toured Europe and accompanied studio productions and live performances with artists and formations such as Rob Bargad , Ed Partyka Jazz Orchestra, David Helbock Trio, Jure Pukl , Michael Erian, Renato Chicco, NDR Bigband , Wayne Darling , Jazzwerkstatt Graz Composers Ensemble, Michael Lagger & Akrostichon, Nina Fiva (musician) Sonnenberg, Andi Tausch , Aarhus Jazz Orchestra, Charlotte Greve , Matthias Löscher , Berndt Luef , Graz Composers Orchestra, Malte Schiller ´s Red Balloon, Àngela Tröndle, Jean-Paul Brodbeck , Hr-Bigband , Bastian Stein , Phil Yaeger, Anton Feinig , RTV Bigband Slovenia, Berndt Luef, Lungau Big Band , Primus Sitter , Karen Asatrian, Ewald Oberleitner and many others.
