Lungau Big Band

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Lungau Big Band (LBB) is an Austrian big band from Lungau in Salzburg .

history

The Lungau Big Band was founded in 1983 by trumpeter Horst Hofer in Lungau. His need was to do "something completely different" and he also found enough musicians from the Lungau for a big band.

For the first few years of their existence they played traditional arrangements from big big bands like Glenn Miller , Benny Goodman and Tommy Dorsey . The band later turned to modern big band literature ( Count Basie , Duke Ellington , Thad Jones , Toshiko Akiyoshi , Peter Herbolzheimer and many others)

In the last few years more and more original compositions were played, which were written by members of the band.
