James Morrison (2017)

James Morrison (born November 11, 1962 in Boorowa , New South Wales , Australia ) is an Australian multi-instrumentalist. In addition to the trumpet , Morrison has also mastered the trombone , euphonium , flugelhorn , saxophone , piano and electronic trumpet. Today he is one of the most important international jazz trumpeters, has played with many great jazz musicians and launched numerous band projects of his own. Morrison learned to play cornet at the age of 7 and performed with his own groups from 1971. From 1975 to 1980 he studied at the New South Wales Conservatory in Sydney . In 1979 he played at the Monterey Jazz Festival . In 1984 his debut album A night in Tunesia was released with the "Morrison Brothers Big Band". In the same year he played in the Olympic Games in Los Angeles. In 1987 he toured the United States with Red Rodney and in 1988 he recorded live at the Montreux Jazz Festival ( Swiss Encounter with Adam Makowicz , Buster Williams , Al Foster ). In 1989 he toured with Gene Harris' band . In 1990 he was voted Performer of the Year in Australia . In 1994 he toured with his band "Hot Horn Happening". In 2001 he took part in the “75. Birthday “tour by Ray Brown . In Europe in recent years he has mainly been seen with his band project On the Edge , which also includes the German composer and keyboardist Simon Stockhausen .
