Rob Bargad

Robert Carl Bargad (born September 7, 1962 in Boston ) is an American jazz musician ( piano , organ , arrangement ) who was also active as a music producer , teacher and songwriter .

Live and act

Bargad studied piano with Kenny Barron at Rutgers University . In 1984 he moved to New York City, where he worked with his own quartet. He also worked as an accompanist for singers such as Little Jimmy Scott and Dakota Staton . In 1987 he became a member of the Lionel Hampton Orchestra, with whom he toured the United States, Europe and Japan. The first recordings were made with him in 1988 ( Cookin 'in the Kitchen ). From 1991 he was part of the Nat Adderley quintet , in which he stayed for eight years and took part in numerous tours. He can be heard u. a. on Adderley albums Work Song, Autumn Leaves, Talkin 'About You and Live at the 1994 Floating Jazz Festival . He also performed with bassists Tony Scheer and Ben Wolfe in New York jazz clubs.

During his career Bargad u. a. also with the Harper Brothers , Jimmy Cobb , Gloria Lynne ( No Detour Ahead , 1993), Jeannie Bryson , Roy Hargrove , LaVerne Butler , Walter Booker , Bud Shank , Curtis Fuller , Keiji Matsushima , Yoichi Kobayashi , Deborah Brown , Scotty Wright and with the singer-songwriter Justin Tracy . Bargad also wrote songs for Dena DeRose ("Another World") and for the independent film Four Corners of Nowhere (1996, directed by Steve Chbosky ).

Bargad released a number of albums under his own name, including several with his keyboard band projects Johnson 3! Ohrgeldrio and FLOZELL . His latest project is REUNION 7tet, with Jerry Weldon, Dave Schumacher, Joe Magnarelli , Daniel Sadownick , Jason Brown and Mike Karn . He has lived in Europe since 2004. After stints in Regensburg , where he taught jazz piano , Vienna and Krumpendorf , he has lived with his family in Klagenfurt since 2015. As a university teacher, he teaches jazz piano and ensemble playing at the Carinthian State Conservatory . In the field of jazz he was involved in 33 recording sessions between 1988 and 2013.
