Keiji Matsushima
Keiji Matsushima ( Japanese 松 島 啓 之 , Matsushima Keiji ; born November 17, 1967 in Kanagawa Prefecture ) is a Japanese jazz trumpeter .
Keiji Matsushima played at the beginning of his career in the Murata Youichi Orchestra, first recordings were made in 1993 when he was a member of the Shigeo Maruyama Suikyo Za Orchestra ( Kick Off ). The following year he recorded his debut album Something Like This in Englewood Cliffs , on which Don Braden (tenor saxophone), Rob Bargad (piano), Ira Coleman (bass) and Billy Drummond (drums) played. The mid-1990s was followed by the production of Brand New , which Matsushima also recorded in the USA, this time with Don Braden, Rob Bargad, Peter Washington and Billy Drummond.
In the following years Matsushima u. a. with Bobby Watson and the Tokyo Leaders Big Band , with Saori Yano , from the mid-2000s with Yuji Ohno & his Lupinti Five ( Lupine the Third Jazz - What's Going On ) and with Yoichi Kobayashi & Good Fellows. After the album Happy Times (2006) he recorded the live album Dedicated To You - Live At Body And Soul under his own name in 2008 . The discographer Tom Lord lists his participation in jazz from 1993 to 2010 in ten recording sessions, most recently with Akio Sasaki ( 40th Anniversary Jazz Organ Party ). In later years Matsushima performed with his own quartet (with Imaizumi Misaki , piano, Shin Uemura , double bass and Andrew Dickeson , drums).
