Saori Yano ( Japanese 矢野 沙織 , Yano Saori ; born October 27, 1986 in Tokyo Prefecture ) is a Japanese jazz saxophonist .

biography

Yano joined her school band in 1996 at the age of nine in the hope of playing the flute, but lost the "rock-paper-scissors" game and ended up with the alto saxophone . At the age of 11 she discovered jazz music through her father's record collection and began to learn jazz saxophone by herself.

At the age of 14 she made her first appearance as a jazz saxophonist and at 15 she signed a record deal, two years later, in 2003, her first album "Yano Saori" was released. In the following years she appeared in New York clubs with jazz musicians such as Jimmy Cobb , James Moody , Jimmy Heath , Slide Hampton and Randy Brecker , went on tours and released other albums. Yano had never received any formal musical training, and so with great musical experience, she lacked the theoretical background with up to 200 performances per year. When she worked with James Moody, he gave her theoretical lessons and became her mentor.
