The Gustav Mahler Private University for Music , until 2019 the Carinthian State Conservatory , or “KONSE” for short, is the highest educational institution for music and drama in the State of Carinthia and is located in Klagenfurt .

history

The state conservatory cooperates with many well-known cultural and educational institutions in the state such as the Alpen-Adria-Universität Klagenfurt . The college of professors consists of 75 artists and educators from the national and international music scene. The KONSE offers space for a total of 900 study and apprenticeship positions, whereby the annual new entry of professional students (initial enrollment) is around 100 students from Germany and abroad. The curricula, some of which are also university studies at the Alpen-Adria-Universität Klagenfurt, contain artistic, educational, theoretical and scientific subjects.

A major focus of the KONSE is the artistic training on the instrument, in singing, in chamber music and in elementary music education (EMP) up to the highest maturity. Each branch (classical, jazz, folk music, EMP) also runs artistic study projects such as orchestras, operas, choirs, early music and productions in the recording studio . The so-called special courses enable the acquisition of valuable additional qualifications for various musical professions.

A four-year acting diploma course has been offered since 2006.

The KONSE subjects are recognized by the universities of Austria in accordance with Section 78 of the Universities Act 2002 on the basis of their content equivalence. Admission requirements for university courses in cooperation with KONSE are the Matura or the university entrance qualification test as well as artistic aptitude. For students of the Artistic Diploma and Instrumental Singing Pedagogy (IGP), the minimum requirement for entry is the so-called general middle school leaving certificate, and for postgraduate studies artistic aptitude.

The Gustav Mahler Private University for Music was opened on November 22, 2019 .
