Jean-Paul Brodbeck (* 1974 in Basel ) is a Swiss jazz pianist .

biography

Brodbeck made his first attempts at the piano at the age of ten, before taking piano lessons from 1985 to 1989 and then studying jazz with Hans Feigenwinter . In 1991 he began studying with Peter Efler at the Basel Conservatory , took courses in chamber music and obtained his teaching diploma in 1995.

At the age of 12 he formed his first band, at 15 he performed with Lionel Hampton . He belonged to the Basel rap group P27 and was a founding member of the jazz rock band Chapter 12 with Andy Scherrer . Since then he has given countless concerts in various formations, as a valued sideman, but also under his own name. He can be heard on a dozen CDs - and he is a lecturer at the Lucerne School of Music .

Brodbeck hardly knows any musical boundaries: he played rap just like klezmer , jazz rock just like film music or jazz as a soloist and in small pieces of information. In addition to his constant work in a trio, he gives concerts with his formation of the Jean-Paul Brodbeck Group. There were also performances with musicians such as Herbie Mann , David Liebman , Wolfgang Muthspiel , Nat Su , Adam Taubitz , Daniel Schnyder , Nils Wogram , Matthieu Michel , Johannes Enders and Billy Hart .
