The prima la musica is a music competition in Austria . Young Austrians, South Tyroleans, young people who have been permanently resident in Austria for at least three years as well as students from Austrian schools abroad are invited to participate.

The prima la musica competition has existed since 1994. It took the place of Jugend musiziert in Austria . Its sponsor is the organization Musik der Jugend, which was founded in the same year by the participating federal states and the federal ministries concerned with the aspects of youth, school and university as well as music funding, following a resolution by the state conference of cultural speakers.

procedure

The prima la musica competition is carried out at the state and federal level. Children and young people who enjoy musical competitions and who want to achieve something special in music should be encouraged to take part in the competition and find and promote as many musical talents as possible. The national competition takes place every year in a different federal state, alternating by instrument group. The best participants in the state competitions are then invited to the national competition. This means that the state competitions are of particular importance.

Categories: piano, organ, strings, plucked, wood and brass instruments, percussion, accordion, vocals The categories are advertised alternately in a 2-year cycle for soloists and ensembles.

Age: For children and young people up to the age of 19, 5 age groups (7 for national competitions)

Program requirement: Depending on the age group, at least two or three original works from different stylistic epochs, at least one work from the music of the 20th century, no compulsory piece

Dates (annually): State competitions in February and March, federal competition in May / June in a different federal state

Registration deadline: December 15th of the previous year
