Max Johnson

Max Johnson (born June 13, 1990 in New York City ) is an American jazz bassist.

Life

Johnson started playing the electric bass when he was 13 and had lessons at the School of Rock . During his time in high school, he toured a. a. with rock musicians such as John Wetton , Jon Anderson and The Butthole Surfers ; he has also performed with Vernon Reid , Andrew WK and Ronnie Spector . He then studied with Henry Grimes , whom he met at the Vision Festival 2009, and with Cameron Brown , Mark Helias and Reggie Workman at New York's New School. Since the end of the 2000s he has been working in both the modern creative and bluegrass fields . a. with Thomas Heberer , Kirk Knuffke , Ziv Ravitz , Tyshawn Sorey , Jeff Davis , Ross Martin , Mark Whitecage, and Steve Swell ; he also led his own trios and a quartet in which he a. a. played with Mike Pride and Kris Davis . Currently (2018) he plays in a trio with Russ Johnson and Tim Daisy .
