Tomas Fujiwara

Tomas A. Fujiwara (* 1977 in Boston ) is an American jazz and improvisation musician ( drums ).

Tomas Fujiwara grew up in Boston; At the age of seven, under the impression of the drum battle between Buddy Rich and Max Roach , he began to be interested in music. After studying for two years with Joyce Kauffman and eight years of teaching with Alan Dawson , he has been working in the American jazz scene since the 2000s. a. with Taylor Ho Bynum , Ralph Alessi , Matt Bauder , Trevor Dunn , Mary Halvorson , Sunny Jain , Steve Lehman , Reuben Radding , Matana Roberts and Brandon Seabrook . In 2010 his debut album Actionspeak was released (with Mary Halvorson, Brian Settles , Danton Boller and Jonathan Finlayson ), followed by The Air Is Different ( 482 Music , 2012). Fujiwara also worked as a composer for theater, film and dance and as a music teacher. Currently (2018) Fujiwara leads the 7 Poets Trio , with Patricia Brennan and Tomeka Reid .
