Matthew "Matt" Bauder (* 1976 in Michigan ) is an American jazz and improvisation musician ( saxophone , clarinet ) and composer .

Life

Bauder studied at the University of North Texas and the University of Michigan , where he earned a bachelor's degree in jazz and improvisation. He then worked in the Chicago jazz scene and continued his studies at Wesleyan University , which he completed with a master's in composition. This was followed by studies in composition and computer music with Ron Kuivila and in composition with Anthony Braxton and Alvin Lucier , then at the Hochschule für Gestaltung in Karlsruhe. After returning to the United States, he has lived in Brooklyn since 2004.

In the course of his career to date, Bauder has worked a. a. with Bill Dixon , Fred Anderson , Roscoe Mitchell , Jeff Parker , Ken Vandermark , Phil Minton , Chad Taylor and Nate Wooley . He also took part in the recordings of Rob Mazurek's Exploding Star Orchestra , Harris Eisenstadt and Taylor Ho Bynum . With his own formations he recorded several albums for the label 482 Music and Clean Feed Records with his own compositions, as well as two duo productions with bassist Jason Ajemian .
