Chad Taylor (born March 19, 1973 in Tempe , Arizona ) is an American drummer and band leader in the field of creative jazz and improvised music .

Live and act

Taylor began working in the New York and Chicago jazz scenes in the early 1990s. He co-founded the Chicago Underground Orchestra with Rob Mazurek and Jeff Parker , played in Triptych Myth by Cooper-Moore and in Digital Primitives with Assif Tsahar . He was a member of Marc Ribot's Spiritual Unity project and also played with Pharoah Sanders , Roscoe Mitchell , John Zorn , Evan Parker , Ellery Eskelin , Tony Malaby , Nicole Mitchell , Henry Grimes , Marc Ribot, Avram Fefer and Craig Taborn . In 2008 Taylor presented his debut album Circle Down (482 Music), which he recorded in a trio with bassist Chris Lightcap and pianist Angelica Sanchez . He currently lives in Jersey City , where he performs with his band Circle Down . At the Down Beat Critics Poll 2020 he was the winner as a rising star in the percussion category.

Chad Taylor should not be confused with the rock guitarist of the same name (* 1970).
