Tom Abbs

Tom Abbs (* 1972 in Seattle , Washington ) is an American jazz musician ( bass , cello , tuba , violin , didgeridoo , flute ), filmmaker and music manager.

Live and act

The multi-instrumentalist Tom Abbs grew up in Washington State and has been living since 1991 in Brooklyn , New York . He studied at the New School in the Jazz and Contemporary Music program, u. a. with Reggie Workman , Buster Williams , Joe Chambers , Brian Smith , Junior Mance , Arnie Lawrence , Chico Hamilton and Art Taylor . Since 1992 he has been working as a professional musician a. a. with Lawrence "Butch" Morris , Charles Gayle , Daniel Carter , Cooper-Moore , Steve Swell , Roy Campbell , Sabir Mateen , Ori Kaplan , Jemeel Moondoc , Assif Tsahar , Borah Bergman , Billy Bang , Andrew Lamb and Warren Smith in the Free range Jazz and improvised music .

He also works with his own formation called Frequency Response ; In 2003 he presented with her a first album under his own name with his own compositions ( Conscription ), which was released by CIMP . In 2008 another album was created ( Lost and Found ). Abbs is also a member of the formations Triptych Myth, Yuganaut and Transmitting (with Napoleon Maddox and Jane LeCroy) and tours as a soloist with his multimedia project Multifarious . He has also worked with the painter MP Landis.

Abbs was also the founder of the artist group Jump Arts , which organized performances in New York between 1997 and 2002. He also works as a manager for the avant-garde label ESP-Disk .
